Your Turn: Single-sort system boosts recycling across the nation

Usually it takes a serious problem to prompt radical changes in public policies affecting large numbers of citizens, but that does not seem to be the case with Minnesota and recycling.

Even though Minnesota is among the top states for overall recycling, apparently trailing only California and Oregon, there are those who seek to put a 10-cent deposit on all beverage containers sold in our state.

This “solution” may actually damage the recycling cause.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency just released a study on setting up a deposit system calling for just 400 redemption centers across Minnesota where consumers would be expected to cart their cans and bottles.
