Defeating Your New Year's Resolution, One Core Power at a Time

The holidays are over. It’s time to hit the gym and shed the weight those sugar cookies have left behind! You’ve made a commitment to yourself to make 2017 better and follow through with your New Year’s Resolution.

You get off to the right start, you set goals, you’re doing great BUT (yes the dreaded but) you can’t resist those midnight munchies! About one month in you’ll wake up in the middle of the night, grab a bag of chips and make yourself a double chocolate milkshake.

We’ve all been there. We know this WILL happen, it’s only a matter of when.

For years committing to a healthier lifestyle has been my go to New Year’s Resolution and for awhile I can do it. I feel great. Life is good. Then one day everything hits the fan and I want to gobble up the whole plate of brownies someone left in the break room.

To combat these moments of weakness, I turn to my secret weapon.

CORE POWER.

With Core Power, you really can have your cake and eat it too.

No, seriously, you can make a cake using Core Power.

We all know getting that daily dose of protein can be tough, I mean come on, no one wants to eat chicken breast every day. When I need that extra protein boost, or just a simple snack, I turn to Core Power.

Here are some of my favorite Core Power recipes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Pancakes usually get a bad rap as being an unhealthy breakfast option, but they don’t have to be! All you have to do is know how to substitute.

Simply choose your favorite Core Power flavor to replace the milk. This is great way to get an extra dose of protein!

To take it one step further, I like to add a fruit puree to my batter. This helps cut down on unwanted fats and adds an extra sweetness that may be lacking.

If you can’t do away with the gooey syrup as a topping, that’s okay, but if you can, try adding fresh fruit and a dollop of Greek yogurt to the top!

So, the next time anyone says pancakes aren’t a healthy breakfast option, set them straight. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life!

I wasn’t joking when I said you could have your cake and eat it to.

Talk about easy and satisfying. This dish is single serve, and thank goodness because after one bite your won’t want to share!

Making personal mug treats has become an obsession sweeping the web, however, some of them can be loaded with sugar. This recipe is made with no added sugar in mind!

I personally like to make this dish when my sweet tooth hits, but it’s also a great option for breakfast. It’s quick, taking about 2 minutes in the microwave, and there’s virtually no mess or dishes. Not a Strawberry Banana fan? No problem, you can customize the recipe using any Core Power flavor.

This sweet treat really has it all. No waiting. No dishes. No guilt. What could go wrong? NOTHING. You have no excuse NOT to eat one (or two) of these mouthwatering cakes.

These little nuggets are oh so satisfying, packed with 5g of protein per bite, and taste just like chocolate chip cookie dough.

They’re no bake and take about ten minutes to make. You can enjoy them on the spot, or double up the recipe and enjoy them for a few weeks!

Keep them fresh by putting them in the freezer. They keep well and come in handy when you’re in need of that midnight snack. Pop them in the microwave for a few seconds and you have perfect treat that will make you forget about that store bought cookie dough all together.

Besides Core Power, these protein bites have a special called Maca Powder, which  is used to give you a small boost of energy without any caffeine. If you don't have any Maca Powder in your cupboard, don’t worry, you can substitute with Cocoa Powder or leave it out all together. They taste great regardless!

Superfoods unite! Pomegranates, beets, and blueberries share the stage in the this winter themed smoothie.

Pomegranate season lasts until the end of February in the North and that's something to be happy about. Packing a flavorful punch, these tiny arils offer an abundant supply of antioxidants and vitamin C.

Beets, although not everyone's favorite, are an all all-star veggie that can be hidden well in this smoothie. With all of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help our bodies fight off disease and strengthen vital organs,we can’t say no to our purple friends.

Blueberries the ultimate superfood are filled with fiber, vitamin C, and cancer-fighting compounds. Eat em' up while you can!

This smoothie has great flavor and gives you a good dose of vitamins and minerals that are needed to keep the winter blues away and you healthy all season long!

 

  

 


HOMESTYLE PROTEIN PANCAKES

Makes 8

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour or whole wheat
  • 3 1/2 tsp baking powder 
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 bottle Core Power (any flavor)
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup applesauce, mashed banana or pumpkin puree

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together in a large bowl. Make a well in center and pour in Core Power, egg whites, and fruit puree; mix until smooth.
  2. Spray griddle or skillet with cooking spray and bring to a medium-high heat. Using approx. 1/4 cup batter for each pancake, pour or scoop batter onto griddle. 
  3. Cook until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Serve hot. Enjoy!

STRAWBERRY BANANA PROTEIN CAKE 

Makes 1

Ingredients

  • 1/3 medium banana
  • 3 tbsp pancake mix
  • 2 tbsp oats
  • 1 pinch baking soda
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/3 cup Core Power
  • Stevia to taste
  • Garnish of choice

Instructions

  1. Add 1/3 banana to large microwave-safe mug and mash with spoon.
  2. Add pancake mix, oats & baking soda to mug, stir lightly to combine.
  3. Add egg white, Core Power & Stevia. Stir until well mixed - about 15 seconds.
  4. Place mug in microwave on high for 75-90 seconds, or until cooked through and set in the middle.
  5. Garnish with toppings and enjoy!

PROTEIN BITES

Makes 18

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup vanilla protein powder
  • 1/4 cup almond meal
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 2 tsp Maca or Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 cup almond butter
  • 2 to 3 tbsp Vanilla Core Power
  • 1 tbsp Stevia
  • 3 tbsp mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Add protein powder, almond meal, oat flour, and Maca/Cocoa Powder in bowl; stir to combine.
  2. Add nut butter, 2 tbsp of Core Powder and Stevia to bowl. Use spatula to combine well (mix should be a bit crumbly, but hold together when pinched between fingers. If dry, add Core Power 1 tsp at a time).
  3. Stir in mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  4. Roll approx. 1 tbsp of dough between palms of hand to form ball; repeat with remaining dough.
  5. Enjoy now or freeze for later!

POMEGRANATE WINTER PROTEIN SMOOTHIE

Makes 1

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Vanilla Core Power*
  • 1/2 cup Pomegranate Juice
  • 1/4 cup Pomegranate Airls
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup shredded beet
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients until smooth; adding ice as needed to achieve desired consistency.
  2. Enjoy!

*For extra protein, try using Core Power Vanilla Elite which packs 42g of protein per serving!
